Martell was founded in the Cognac region in 1715, making it the oldest of today?s major cognac houses. What makes Martell stand out is its specific double distillation method in traditional Charentais pot stills to extract the essence of the eaux-de-vie. The grapes used come from the four finest growth areas of the Charente region: Borderies, Grande Champagne, Petite Champagne, and Fins Bois.
After distillation, the eaux-de-vie age in oak barrels infusing soft and subtle tannins characterised by finesse and complexity. Naturally, the eaux-de-vie absorb some of their flavour from the wood and acquire its amber colour and special aroma.
Martell VSOP Medaillon is a dark, amber-coloured and long-aged cognac with beautiful aromas of dried fruits, vanilla, and oak wood. On the palate, this superb drink is full-bodied and smooth with a subtle sweetness and a lingering finish. Some people may also know this good drop as the Martell VSOP medallion. This is what this sweet cognac was called before its name was changed.
